Last Wednesday I saw The New Respects at the Paper Tiger. They opened for Colony House, a band I’ve followed for a few years. But I was definitely there to see The New Respects.

A good friend of mine turned me on to the band a few months ago. Since then they’ve released their latest album, Until the Sun Goes Down. I spent the summer jamming to the album and marked the San Antonio show on my calendar weeks ago.

The New Respects comprises siblings Alexandria, Alexis, and Darius as well as cousin Jasmine Mullen. The family dynamic explains the chemistry displayed in their live performance. The New Respects has proven to be my favorite kind of band: one that sounds even better live than they do on the record.

Below I’ve chosen a few songs to serve as an introduction to one of my new favorite bands. Enjoy.
